Governance

Ascend governance is composed of an Executive Committee, a Steering Committee, as well as two sub-committees, Strategic Design and Change Adoption, comprised of members of the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee, with the support of an Executive Committee, serves as the primary governing body for the Ascend.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee helps provide oversight to the Ascend Project and champions the project to the campus community. The Committee also helps resolve escalated issues by making decisions based on Steering Committee, project team, and community input, and help to enforce the project mission and guiding principles when major decisions are made. Additionally, they absorb project updates and support the project team in resolving vendor issues and leveraging Oracle product expertise. The Executive Committee is comprised of University personnel.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the primary governing body for the Ascend project, with membership representing the leadership from UCLA’s finance, budget, research, and external relations functions. The Committee oversees and supports the overall project in line with mission and guiding principles, ensures the project is operating within stated constraints (budget, schedule, scope, etc.), and monitors risks and associated mitigation efforts.

Sub-Committees

Finally, two sub-committees, Strategic Design and Change Adoption, have been formed to support Project Leadership decisions as well as decision escalation to the full Steering Committee on key decisions with significant campus-wide impact

The Strategic Design Sub-Committee:

  • Advise on topics that have a high impact on operations or business processes involving the campus community or other affiliated groups in scope.
  • Provide insight into the needs of various units to help evaluate proposed solutions to ensure they will meet the needs of a variety of departments.
  • Prioritizes decisions to be raised to Steering Committee.
